This program focuses on the important skills needed to have a career in the Manufacturing or Trades Industries.  This program is designed to help high school seniors enter the workforce with the basic skills needed along with an understanding of safety.   The program also emphasizes the importance of teamwork and following instructions along with reading and accurately following directions, attendance and time spent on breaks, and general “soft skill” concepts like interacting with employers and proper work attire.
  1. Safety covers topics such as responsibilities, inspection, emergency preparedness, workplace behavior, ear and eye wear, equipment handling, etc.
  2. Quality includes blueprint reading, tape and precision measurement, dimensional gauging, quality systems, and more.
  3. Manufacturing Processes and Production focuses on product creation, mechanical principles (concepts, force measurements, torque and moments, levers and mechanical advantage), mechanical linkages, machining processes, machine operation, production workflow, etc.
  4. Maintenance Awareness touches moderately on basic electric circuits, pneumatic power systems, hydraulic power systems, lubrication concepts, belt/chain drives, machine control concepts, etc.
This program brings employer partners to visit the classroom, talk to the students about their companies and the types of jobs available as well as their expectations of new employees. Students also take field trips to observe the practices of companies and participate in internships in manufacturing companies. Then during the second semester of the year the students will do an internship in a manufacturing facility.

Through our career awareness initiatives, we help students develop a vision of success for their future by connecting with a career path. We bridge gaps between educators, businesses, parents and students by organizing career awareness activities and emphasizing the importance of completing high school.
